MOT to Gradually Resume Maritime Navigation for Fishing Vessels from March 30

The Ministry of Transport has announced the gradual resumption of maritime navigation for vessels licensed for fishing activity, starting Monday, March 30.

According to the announcement, the resumption applies only to maritime vessels authorised for fishing, and will be implemented in phases while strict technical and safety requirements remain in place.

The ministry stated that vessels will only be allowed to operate if they are confirmed to be safe and seaworthy. In addition, all vessels must have an operational Automatic Identification System (AIS) device on board, which must remain switched on at all times until the vessel returns to port. Operators are also required to carry a VHF radio tuned to Channel 16 throughout the voyage.

The ministry further emphasised that all fishing vessels must comply with the provisions of the law governing maritime vessels, as well as the relevant bylaws and implementing decisions.

MOT urged all operators to strictly follow the announcement, warning that failure to comply with the stated requirements could result in legal accountability.
