Qatar Museums invites public to experience art and culture with vibrant public programme

Qatar Museums (QM) has an exciting schedule of new activities and events planned for the coming weeks, including themed museum tours, arts and crafts workshops, open days, musical events and storytelling sessions, taking place across various QM venues. 

M7—Qatar’s epicentre for innovation and entrepreneurship in fashion, design and technology—is hosting two embroidery workshops, inviting the public to learn the art of Tatreez, traditional Palestinian embroidery. 

  • Tatreez and Tea Workshop (for adults)

28 May 2024 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Join us in celebrating culture, creativity, and compassion through the art of Tatreez. Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Tatreez at our workshop, where you’ll explore the techniques, history, and symbolism behind this cherished Palestinian embroidery tradition. Discover the intricate stitches and vibrant patterns that tell stories of identity and resilience. The workshop costs 400 QAR.

  • Tatreez and Teens (for teenagers)

1 June 2024 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Tatreez and Teens is exclusively designed for young creatives who will explore the fascinating history and techniques of Palestinian embroidery narrating stories of identity and resilience from the women of Gaza. Join us for an enriching experience where creativity meets culture, and where every stitch tells a story. The workshop costs 400 QR Bundle, or 700 QR for teens with an accompanying adult.

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) have a packed June programme, featuring a variety of art workshops, a story time session, monthly family day, and activities for children. Highlights in June include: 

  • MIA Music Night

6 June 2024 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

MIA invites the public to attend a night of music in the atrium, with a live performance from

Doha Jazz Band. The event is free of charge and admission will be on a first come first serve basis. Reserved seats for IDAM customers

  • Explore Carpets in MIA – Workshop

5 June 2024 | 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Experience the rich history of Islamic carpets at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and take part in this workshop to learn about the most important collections of Islamic carpets stories hidden inside within each artefact. This workshop is free to attend, and registration is not required.

  • Storytime at MIA Library

3 June 2024 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Bring your children along to this story time session at the Museum of Islamic Art. Come and join us in this family bonding story session to read Maisy Goes Camping by Lucy Cousins. The session is free, however registration required. Register by emailing: librarymia@qm.org.qa.*

  • Mughal Florals

9 – 10 June 2024 | 4:00 PM – 5:30 pm

Discover the famous floral art of the Mughal Empire and paint your own version in miniature style! Join the Museum of Islamic Art to explore their stunning collection of Indian botanical paintings. Participants will also learn how to paint miniature floral portraits. The workshop is free, however registration is required.*

  • Escape Room: The Scholars of the Islamic World

Every Tuesday and Thursday until 2 September 2024 | 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) are collaborating to bring you Qatar’s first museum escape room experience. Featuring rooms within rooms that explore different facets of Islamic scholarship, participants will navigate through themed chambers focused on calligraphy, Islamic science and inventions, astronomy, and the conservation of Islamic art objects, uncovering hidden knowledge and unravelling mysteries along the way. This activity will take place at the MIA Education Wing on the 2nd Floor. For 14-year-olds and above. The duration of the activity is 1 hour and 30 minutes. 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM) will host a number of activities in June, including hockey and taekwondo events, a themed open day for families ahead of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, and a storytelling session for children. 

  • 3-2-1 Olympic Sport Event – Hockey 

Daily 2 – 6 June 2024 | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

  • 3-2-1 Olympic Sport Event – Hockey is designed to develop hockey skills and to promote teamwork. In collaboration with Qatar Hockey Federation, the event will educate participants about sport that combines speed, skill, and strategy in a fast-paced sporting environment.   • 3-2-1 Olympic Sport Event – Taekwondo 

Daily 9 – 13 June 2024 | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM – 6: 00 PM

Taekwondo event is a display of speed, agility, and precision. In collaboration with Qatar Taekwondo Federation, participants and families will learn not only about physical prowess but also about the spirit of martial arts, emphasising respect, discipline, and honour among competitors.   • 2024 Celebration of World Olympic Day

23 June 2024 | 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM

In celebration of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, QOSM are hosting an exciting day of activities themed around Olympic values such as respect, friendship, self-confidence.   • Storytelling at 3-2-1 – “Mutaz Barshim: Winning Beyond Gold”

29 June 2024 | 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

This month’s programme features the book, “Mutaz Barshim: Winning Beyond Gold” by Amal Eissa. The book will be read aloud to children aged 7-11, providing a magical experience that sparks imagination and fosters a love of reading.

Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar will host a public talk in June at Fire Station Cinema, located at Fire Station: Artist in Residence.

  • Humans We Are: A Talk with Juror – Sami Al Ramyan

27 May 2024 | 7:00 PM – 8:00PM

Sami Al Ramyan will talk about his journey of documentary photography in the humanitarian field which ended with the ‘Photo Humanity Grant’. The talk will cover the photographer’s documentary projects, visual narrative and Photo Humanity Grant. Register for this talk through this link.

The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) will host various activities throughout June, including storytelling sessions, guided tours, and workshops. 

  • And the journey begins! – Storytelling Session

Join our storytelling session in the presence of author Asmaa Al-Kuwari, who will be the storyteller and introduce us to Abdullah and his journey to the land of safety.   • A Story of Pearl Divers 

13 May – 20 May 2024 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM (English) and 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM (Arabic)

  • Discovery Programmes: Insect Workshop  

Every Sunday and Tuesday | 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM 

Join us for a hands-on workshop where young explorers can venture outdoors, gather nature’s treasures like leaves, wood, and rocks, and transform them into unique bugs. Spark creativity, connect with nature, and let imaginations soar as children craft their own insect friends using the beauty of the great outdoors.   • School Storytelling

Every Monday & Wednesday | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art is hosting a variety of engaging art activities for the public to enjoy. 

  • Rhythm & Hues

1 June 2024 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM 

Welcome to the music and art enthusiasts! This event aims to educate the public about the translation of music into visual art and vice versa. Through music, painting surfaces, and conversation, we will explore artists who found inspiration in music for their work, as well as composers who infused emotion into symphonies and operas. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to create their own piece of Abstract Expressionist art. Book your spot by registering here.

  • Drawtastic

8 & 22 June 2024 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Drawtastic will allow creative individuals to partake in a fun model observational drawing/ painting activity. There are no specific mediums to use, the participants can use any available medium they desire. This event will greatly enhance the participants’ perceptive focus, and their hand to eye coordination as they will observe the model while drawing/ painting. The participants will be able to translate the 3D model form from their surroundings to 2D drawings/ paintings on paper/ canvas, allowing them to hone their understanding of shapes and proportions. The main purpose of this event is to have fun and enjoy art expression using various tools and mediums.
