Seeroo Fi Al Ardh Artwork at Education City Offers Interactive Art Workshops

A unique work of art at Qatar Foundation’s Education City is offering people across Qatar the chance to unlock their creative talents through a series of interactive workshops – including some with a football theme – which are free to all members of the community.

Seeroo fi al ardh is the final artwork of the renowned Indian artist Maqbool Fida Husain, and from this month it will be welcoming aspiring artists of all ages to attend workshops designed to spark imaginations and provide an opportunity for learning.

The upcoming workshop on Saturday, 10 February 2024 includes a football art and play sessions for younger audiences, which will explore how to craft a pitch and design the kit of your favorite team – or even create your own design – while a Qatari flag will take pride of place in the Seeroo fi al ardh installation itself, celebrating the experiences young football fans have had across the country as Qatar has become a global hub of the game.

Women and girls can also enjoy the artistic side of football through an abstract workshop that invites you to dive into the creative process of foundational techniques used by Husain, using his distinctive approach to paint a football player on any background, from sunrise and the moon to colorful sunsets.

The interactive Seeroo fi al ardh workshops take place every Saturday from 10am-5pm from 10 February until 2 March. Offering different sessions each week, the workshops range from activities like clay molding, animation for kids and families, botanical art, and literary imagination in drawing and writing. Only sustainable and recycled materials are used for the workshops, as they highlight the importance of sustainability.

With its permanent location being in Education City between Chef’s Garden and Al Shaqab, Seeroo fi al ardh is part of the Qatar Foundation Art Walks, which also include the Azzm sculpture near 2015 (Qatar Foundation Headquarters).

Azzm, designed by His Excellency Sheikh Hassan Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al Thani, Advisor of Cultural Affairs at Qatar Foundation, consists of three granite sculptures depicting local women wearing abayas and battoulahs, which exaggerate the shape of the clothing as the women march into the wind.
