The Islamic calendar marks two Eids for Muslims. One is Eid al-Fitr which is celebrated marking the end of the holy month of fasting, Ramadan. The second is Eid al-Adha which is celebrated on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah (the last month of the Islamic calendar). Eid Al-Adha is also known as the ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’, and its significance lies in its story.
Eid Al-Adha is celebrated to honor the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail (عليه السلام) after seeing in a dream that Allah commanded him to do so. Due to Prophet Ibrahim’s (عليه السلام) test of faith, Muslims around the world offer a sacrifice on Eid Al-Adha by slaughtering an animal such as a goat, camel, cow, or sheep. The meat is then distributed to family, friends, and the poor to help deserving families and close relatives.
The sacrifice must be performed on the 10th, 11th, and 12th days of Dhul-Hijjah, which is the first, second, or third day of Eid al-Adha.
The new crescent of Dhul-Hijjah was sighted in Saudi Arabia, and it is announced that the first of Eid Al-Adha 2024 will be on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The day of Arafah will be marked on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Process
- You pick a slaughterhouse that is most suitable for you in Qatar
- Book a sheep or goat there and stay in queue to get a ticket.
- Then you join another queue with the animal to the place of slaughter.
- At your turn, the animal will be slaughtered and you can wait outside to receive your meat.
- You can buy plastic bags from counters arranged inside the slaughterhouse to carry the meat
