Going to the beach is the perfect weekend plan for the majority public in Qatar. The preference of spending time at the beaches increases during the cooler months in Qatar (November – April).
Qatar is home to many beautiful beaches where people go for over night camping, barbeques and other leisurely activities. Read below as we introduce to you, one by one, the well-known public beaches in Qatar.
Mesaieed Beach (Sand dunes beach)
This exciting public beach is located in the southern part called Sealine. The special thing about this public beach is visitors will get to enjoy the high tide beach on one side and the exhilarating sealine sand dunes on the other side.
Apart from the beach, there is a wide variety of activities – like camel riding, buggy rentals, safari tours, and dune bashing.
Location: Mesaieed Beach 63 km drive from Doha to Mesaieed.
General Instructions:
- Pets are allowed.
- It is advised to reach by a 4×4 vehicle
- Boats and jet skis are allowed
- BBQ allowed & overnight stays are allowed
- No facilities such as toilets, available at the beach.
- Parking is available at the beginning of the sand dunes which is a help for people who go in their Sedan cars. Going further to the beach is not possible with a sedan.
Dukhan Beach
Famous for its soft white sand, Dukhan Public Beach is a quiet beach on weekdays and an absolute public favorite beach to visit on weekends. The beach is clear and shallow in the beginning safe for all to swim. The water is known to have a number of rocks and caution is advised regarding jellyfish.
Location: Dukhan Public Beach 80 km drive from Doha in Dukhan city. Take the main Dukhan exit and head straight through a small town to the public beach. There are two beaches on either side of the private Qatar Petroleum Sports Club.

- BBQ & overnight stays are allowed
- No facilities are available at the beach.
Fuwairit Beach
Fuwairit Beach is famously known as a rocky beach. The beach is distinguished by its rocky shore extending at a length. The beach is closed from April to August, as it is a nesting spot for sea turtles during this period but you can always access the other beach just some distance ahead of it.
Location: Fuwairit Beach About 98 km from Doha. About 102 km drive from Doha to Fuwairit.
General Instructions:
- Pets are allowed
- 4×4 vehicles will be most convenient to reach.
- BBQ and overnight stays are allowed
- No facilities are available at the beach.
AlGhariya Beaches
There are two beaches with different rules and facilities on each. Known as AlGhariya Swimming Beach on Google Maps, this beach is well maintained by the ministry and is in a boundary. The beach has huts with benches, rubbish bins, and BBQ stations.
Location: Al Ghariya swimming beach 100 km from Doha (1-hour drive)
General Instructions:
- No pets allowed
- No smoking of any type permitted (Shisha, etc)
- Boats & Jet skis are not allowed near the beach
- Appropriate dress code to be followed
- Overnight stays are not allowed
- BBQ allowed with facilities provided
Beware of littering.
The other beach is an open beach with no facilities and it is called Al Ghārīyah Beach on Google Maps.
Location: Al Ghārīyah Beach 102 km from Doha.

- It is advised to reach by a 4×4 vehicle
- Boats & Jet skis are allowed
- The beach can be preferred for overnight stays
- BBQ allowed
- Beware of littering
- No facilities are available at the beach.
Umm Bab Beach
Popularly characterized by palm trees and sand hills, Umm Bab Beach is a slightly different beach when it comes to its surroundings. The beach is located in the west of Qatar which makes it a perfect spot to watch beautiful sunsets. The beach shore is rocky instead of sandy.
Location: Umm Bab Beach 84 km from Doha.

- Pets are allowed
- Beach can be accessed by any car
- Boats & Jet skis are allowed
- BBQ & overnight stays are allowed
- No facilities are available at the beach
Maroona Beach
Maroona beach is popularly known as the French beach here in Qatar. It became popular as a hidden gem characterized by soft goldish sand, shallow warm sea, with transparent water.
Location: Maroona Beach 95 km drive from Doha. On the Al Shamal road take exit 72 to the East service road and drive until the Maroona Mosque. Take a right from there and drive straight until the Al Maroona beach signage.

- BBQ & overnight stays are allowed
- No facilities are available at the beach.
Azerbaijani Beach
This beach is characterized by clean and fine sands, clear turquoise waters, and beautiful scenes where the desert meets the sea making it a perfect spot to witness sunrise and sunset. The water is super shallow on the smooth sandy shore.
Location: Azerbaijani Beach 93 km drive from Doha. On the Al Shamal road take exit 66 and follow the map and signage to reach the beach.
