Qatar Foundation Organizes a Host of Activities for National Sport Day 2024

As Qatar celebrates National Sport Day, Qatar Foundation will be hosting a range of activities where families and people of all ages can gather and enjoy a day of fun sporting activities – from hockey, and tennis, to shooting and archery, and much more.

The events, taking place at Education City on Tuesday, February 13, are designed to cater to the whole community, and will include ability-friendly activities, and programs specifically for school students, and women and girls.

This year’s activities will be held from 9am-6pm at multiple locations within Education City: Oxygen Park, the Ceremonial Green Spine, Ceremonial Court, Multaqa (Education City Student Center), Awsaj Recreation, and for women and girls only – the Education City Stadium.

Also on offer will be a unique set activities and facilities at Qatar Foundation (QF). After a successful first edition last year, the Education City Try-A-Tri – a triathlon – is back for the 2024 edition National Sport Day, and participants will be able to choose between competing in mixed or ladies only groups.

The Education City Mountain Bike Trail will be launched and open for those wishing to try it. And those looking to run a race can participate in the Education City Race that will be divided into four categories: 800m, 2.5km, 5km, and 10km.

This year, QF school students will be at the core of the events, with students leading activities in partnership with local sport federations and spreading the message of encouraging children to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.

And there will be a special focus on sporting activities for women and girls only, with numerous activities planned in the safe and inclusive environment of the Education City Stadium. These activities include an obstacle course, football competitions, boxing, yoga, and numerous fitness classes.

An inspiring talk titled ‘Champion Mindset: Unlocking Greatness’ will also be held from 8-9am at the Education City Stadium. The talk will feature Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur; Ibtihaj Muhammad, an American Olympian sabre fencer and the first Muslim American woman to wear a headscarf while competing in the Olympics; and former Scottish middle- and long-distance Olympian runner Liz McColgan. It will be moderated by Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al Thani, Director of Marketing and International Cooperation Sector, Qatar Olympic Committee. The talk is open for women and girls only, and registration is required to attend.

National Sport Day at Qatar Foundation will contribute to building on the legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and other major sporting events that are hosted in Education City. It will be an opportunity for the wider public to discover Education City’s sports programs, venues, and facilities, and will highlight Qatar’s dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles.

National Sport Day will be a car-free day at Education City.
