A group of nearly 100 emerging leaders from various parts of the globe, including 21 individuals studying and working in Qatar, have been chosen to take part in the 2024 Ambassador Program offered by Qatar Foundation’s Doha Debates.
During the 10-week program, participants will collaborate with facilitation experts and international speakers to enhance their communication skills, engage in constructive discussions on complex global issues, and collectively envision their desired future.
Aligned with Doha Debates’ goal of empowering youth to bridge differences through dialogue, the program focuses on refining ambassadors’ facilitation and negotiation abilities as they address pressing topics like climate change, global governance, and ethical AI, striving to find common ground despite diverse perspectives.
Prior to the program, ambassadors completed Doha Debates’ online course, “Introduction to the Majlis,” which teaches solutions-oriented dialogue rooted in the Arab tradition of the majlis. This course, available for free on the Participate learning platform, equips participants to counter polarization by openly discussing personal and community matters.
Beyond fostering intercultural communication skills, ambassadors build lasting connections with peers and remain engaged with Doha Debates through debates, podcasts, town halls, and other events following the program’s conclusion.
Recently, program alumni participated in Doha Debates’ town hall, “Rise of the Rest: Who should lead in a multipolar world?”, posing questions to panelists and contributing to ongoing discussions. Furthermore, six alumni are mentoring the new cohort and assisting in developing teaching guides for Doha Debates’ new podcast, Necessary Tomorrows.
The 2024 Ambassador Program welcomes students from various institutions in Qatar, representing 33 countries across five continents. These aspiring leaders come from diverse backgrounds and are committed to addressing global challenges through collaborative efforts.
Amjad Atallah, Managing Director of Doha Debates, expressed excitement about the new cohort’s potential to address complex issues cooperatively, emphasizing Qatar Foundation’s support for this global initiative.
Doha Debates’ Ambassador Program is conducted in collaboration with Shared_Studios, a purpose-driven startup utilizing innovative technology to facilitate connections and foster collaboration worldwide.
