Qatar Charity’s Alaqraboon Center Expands Ramadan Support for Low-Income Families

Qatar Charity has launched a Ramadan campaign through its Alaqraboon Center to support low-income families and expand social welfare services across the country.

In a statement, the organisation said the campaign aims to raise QAR100 million and follows the official launch of the Alaqraboon Center earlier this year, established by decision of Qatar Charity’s Board in December 2025 as a specialised entity for domestic social assistance.

Head of the Center Faisal Rashid AlFehaida said it builds on Qatar Charity’s existing social welfare work and Alaqraboon platform, providing targeted programmes to meet growing community needs.

Director of Local Social Welfare Abdulla AlDosari said the campaign includes a comprehensive package of Ramadan initiatives. These include the “Ramadan Supply” project providing shopping vouchers to around 60,000 people, food basket distributions for about 10,000 beneficiaries, and the “Khair Kitchen” project delivering hot iftar meals to around 30,000 people in cooperation with productive Qatari families and the Ministry of Social Development and Family.

He added that Zakat Al-Fitr distributions will benefit around 10,000 individuals, alongside iftar and ghabga gatherings for about 1,000 orphans. The Center currently supports around 1,600 cases in Qatar, including approximately 1,300 orphans, with Eid gifts also planned.

Senior Head of Aid Program Mohammad Ali Al Mal said applications are received through the Alaqraboon app, followed by electronic verification and field assessments by specialised social research teams to ensure fairness and rapid response, particularly in emergency cases.

He noted that assistance covers key areas including living expenses, healthcare, education, housing and sponsorships, delivered through financial aid, vouchers, sponsorship programmes, support for debtors and prisoners’ families, and emergency humanitarian response.

The campaign reflects Qatar Charity’s efforts to strengthen social solidarity and expand support for vulnerable communities during Ramadan.
