Authorities in Qatar have announced adjusted working hours for both the public and private sectors in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, ensuring a balance between productivity and the well-being of employees during the fasting period.
For the private sector, working hours have been set at 36 hours per week, with a maximum of six hours per day, in line with the provisions of the Labour Law. The reduced schedule applies to all private sector establishments across the country throughout Ramadan.
Meanwhile, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has outlined the official working hours for government entities. Civil servants will work five hours per day, from 9 am to 2 pm, with employees allowed to begin their workday as late as 10 am, provided they complete the required five working hours.
To ensure continuity of operations during the Holy Month, the government has also approved remote working arrangements for up to 30% of employees. Priority for remote work will be given to Qatari mothers and individuals with disabilities, while maintaining essential operational requirements across government departments.
The Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will independently determine their working hours and schedules, taking into account their specific operational needs and public service responsibilities.
The revised schedules are part of Qatar’s annual measures to accommodate the unique rhythm of Ramadan, supporting both workplace efficiency and the spiritual observance of the Holy Month across the country.
