The Organizing Committee for Qatar National Sports Day has announced the launch of the National Sports Day Award, aimed at both government and private entities. The purpose of the award is to honor organizations that actively promote a culture of sports and physical activity among their members.
The award is designed to encourage healthy competition between institutions, motivating them to foster a more active and health-conscious work environment, thereby contributing to the improvement of public health and the promotion of a sporting spirit within Qatari society.
Mr. Abdulrahman bin Muslim Al-Dosari, Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Sports Day, stated that this award is in recognition of the year-round efforts in organizing sports events, aligned with the vision of National Sports Day, which aims to establish sports as a sustainable lifestyle.
During a press conference held today to announce the launch of the award, Mr. Al-Dosari outlined the rules governing the National Sports Day Award. One of the key requirements is that participating organizations must promote their sports activities through social media, using the hashtags #OnTime and #SportsIsLife, along with tagging the official National Sports Day account.
He emphasized the need for the participating organizations to document all events with clear photos and videos, which should be shared on their social media platforms to raise awareness and encourage broader community engagement. Additionally, organizations are required to complete an event form, available on the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s website, providing details of the event and the number of participants.
Mr. Al-Dosari stressed the importance of complying with safety and security protocols during all sports events, including providing medical teams, securing event venues and ensuring the proper use of equipment.
He further explained that the award points will be calculated based on four main criteria: the number of events organized, the number of event days, the number of participants and the number of entities participating in the Sports for All Calendar of events.
Mr. Al-Dosari encouraged both government and private organizations, as well as commercial companies, to participate in the National Sports Day Award and contribute to promoting sports and physical activity in Qatar.
Commenting on preparations for this year’s National Sports Day, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee highlighted the positive impact this annual event has had in spreading the culture of sports across the community. The percentage of people participating in sports rose to 28% this year, compared to just 11% in 2011.
He also pointed out a notable increase in interest in sports across the country, with the number of participants exceeding the annual target by 6%. The strategy aimed to achieve a 36% participation rate by 2030, showcasing the success of the policies and initiatives implemented in this regard.
In addition, Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Head of Activities and Events at the Sports for All Federation, shared the Federation’s upcoming calendar, which includes 750 free sports events for the public throughout the year.
He praised the state’s extensive sports infrastructure, which has made it easier for all groups to engage in sports, regardless of climate conditions. He encouraged people to make use of the Federation’s sports and recreational activities, which contribute to improving individual health, strengthening social ties within the organizations, and enhancing the mental well-being of everyone who participates in sports.
