Did you know that in some Muslim countries, an Iftar cannon is fired to notify the people that it’s time to break their fast? The Iftar Cannon, Madfa al Iftar, meaning: ‘cannon for breaking the fast’, is an ancient tradition that started in Egypt and spread to several surrounding Muslim countries.

Every day during Ramadan, minutes before the Maghreb prayer, a cannon would fire a single shot to notify people of the time of Iftar in Ramadan, when Muslims get to break their long day fasting as the sun sets.

Qatar also follows the tradition during Ramadan and below are seven places in Qatar to watch the Iftar canon:

Lusail Boulevard

Souq Waqif, Doha

Old Doha Port

Katara Cultural Village

Al Wakrah Old Souq

Aspire Park

Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal
